An Overloaded Cockroach Lover by Destiny

A 37 year old lady in China has a tank filled with cockroaches. She breeds them and if there is one hole inside the buckets or tanks, she seals it so none of them escape.

Inside her house there are over 100,000 cockroaches. She sells them and makes medicines by crunching them. Then she takes them to a Chinese medicine company. When she bought her house she bought 30-40kgs of cockroaches and did a course to see how to raise them. In China they believe that squished up cockroach paste is an anti-cancer medicine, but there isn’t any proof that it works.

The Twin Tornadoes by Destiny

In the morning I watched the news about the double tornadoes that struck Nebraska in America. It happened on Tuesday and killed  a five year old boy and injured 19 people. It went for 60 miles to Iowa.

It had destroyed thousands of homes ripping the houses apart. The last double storm was in 1999. They say that it is going to take a year or so to rebuild.

It’s going to cost about half a million or more to rebuild!

News You Need To Know About by Destiny

Robberies All Over The Country

On Friday I watched Police Ten 7. There were five men that stole a grey ford and broke into a shop in Rotorua. While they were stealing the money, 4 children were inside the shop. They  threatened to kill the children. Later they went to another shop not far from Rotorua and broke in at night. 2 days later they dumped the car in Auckland at a junkyard. The next day they stole another car that was red. They later dumped it by Noel Leeming.

Room 11's Netball Lesson by Destiny

On Thursday it was room 11’s first netball lesson with Donna, our netball coach from kiwisport. We learnt the different types of passes that we could use in a real game of netball. It was the fire pass, the chest pass, overhead throw and the shoulder throw.

We had to partner up with somebody and we learnt how to pass the ball in different ways. Later we had to go into four different teams. Someone had to hold the hoop and we threw the ball through it. We also played hot potato and three square.

At the end we played a game of netball. I had to be reserve and then I became goal defense. It was fun.

What I Learnt At Mr Grundy's Class by Destiny

On Wednesday we went to Mr Grundy’s class for tech to learn how to create pewter jewellery. He first told us his safety rules. He told us that we always had to be one metre away when he was using any materials or machines. He explained what the machines are called and what we do with them. He then started planning with us to get us started. It was neat when he showed us how to melt down pewter alloy.
We are going to find our own silhouettes to use. We then watched a video of Mr Grundy making the pewter jewellery. We had to write our name on MDF wood. We had to mark where we were going to draw on paper. At the back we had to colour it and then put the MDF wood under.
This week we might start creating our pewter jewellery. Before we can we have to decide who we’re going to make it for and what it’ll look like on the people we’re giving it to. The first person I’m giving it to is my sister because I broke her necklace. We had to remember all of the instructions for this week. It’s going to be great making our pewter jewellery this week.

My Cockle And Pipi Hunt by Destiny

On Sunday my family looked for cockles, pipis and oysters down at Kawakawa Bay and Maraetai. Then we went home and had a massive hangi and cheese cake for dinner.

My mum and two uncles went fishing while we got the shellfish. We got one hundred pipis and cockles each. My mum and uncles caught five snapper. Later we drove down to Maraetai and my uncles swam in the water while finding oysters. We waited so long that we decided to have a swim in the sea, but it didn’t last long.

When they came back we went home and cooked dinner. My uncle boiled the cockles so they all opened. Then they made the hangi and put the oysters and pipis in a bowl. My sisters and I ate the cockles, pipis and hangi, but we weren’t allowed to have any oysters. It was delicious.
